Social Cause Mantra

Overview

For this self-initiated project, I designed a mural and a series of social media graphics to promote mental health awareness, inspired by the mission of the National Council of Mental Wellbeing. Guided by the mantra "Emotion makes us human," the project aims to celebrate the shared emotional experiences that connect us and reduce the stigma surrounding mental health; Follow by a short movie animation after.

Creative Process

Sketching, Analyzing, & Researches

I drew inspiration from abstract art and human-centered design, focusing on emotions and inclusivity. I started with thumbnails to explore different compositions and layouts. For typography, I combined a clean sans-serif font with a script font to balance clarity with warmth, reflecting the campaign's message of embracing all emotions. This mix created a professional yet personal tone, aligning with the project's goal to reduce stigma and encourage connection through shared human experiences.

Design

Digital Compositions

My design process often involves playing with the contrast between lowercase and uppercase letters to convey deeper emotional meanings. The idea of using uneven letters emphasizes how emotions can sometimes feel like a rollercoaster, unpredictable and fluctuating. By varying the size, weight, and placement of the letters, I aim to visually represent this sense of emotional ups and downs. This subtle yet impactful approach helps communicate the dynamic nature of emotions, adding a layer of meaning to the typography that resonates with the viewer

Refinement

Final Design & Mockups

In the final design, I incorporated the organization's logo alongside my type design, applying it to mockups for a mural, T-shirt, and social media post. For the mural, the type flowed naturally with the space, while on the T-shirt, it remained bold and readable. The social media post was adapted to fit the platform, ensuring the design was eye-catching and cohesive across all formats.

Brand Extension

Short Movie Animation

“The Journey of Becoming” was inspired by the core values of self-discovery and emotional wellness, aligning closely with the social cause mantra of the National Council of Mental Wellbeing. The animation reflects the struggles of balancing life’s demands and the liberating power of letting go—ideas central to mental health awareness. Through its raw, hand-drawn style, the film conveys the emotional nuances of self-acceptance and resilience.

This project also serves as a starting point for extending the brand’s influence by promoting conversations about mental wellbeing through art and storytelling. By drawing attention to the importance of balance, control, and the courage to release societal pressures, the animation embodies the mission of fostering understanding, connection, and healing.
